Will your Website Design forgive you ?

Yes, today let me be forthright with you, no beating around the bush. A website design is your online salesman which works round clock and brings business for you. It is as much a living creature as your real salesman, but most businesses do not take care of their website as such. Just tell me, will your website design forgive you, if you make the following deadly sins on it ?

If you have a team of business executives/salesman, who bring in business for you -- You do not just tell them to go out and get business for you. You provide them with all the tools and infrastructure to work and present themselves to the clients so that they can bring in business --- but do you do this for your website ? Sadly, the answer from most people will be a big NO ! A website design is a salesman which works round the clock and incurs the least cost to company as compared to real salesman. So, if you cannot provide all the hi-fi tools for it, make sure that you do not commit the following mistakes on your website.

1. Web Design with Frames
There was a time when designing a website with frames was in vogue, but not any more. Frames based web designing is a big NO - NO. Yes, it used to make the task of managing a huge website very easy but search engines do not like them as it confuses their bots to no extent. Do not used frames to design your website and if you have frames based web design on your website --- change it now.

How to determine, whether your current web design is made using frames ? It's very simple, if your website design shows more than one scroll bar than it is using frames.

2. Only Flash Home Page
Flash is an attractive way to present something, the effects used can make it overwhelming. But that is true only for presentations and not for websites meant to be shown on the internet. If you have an Only Flash Home Page, than most probably you will lose more website visitors than getting them. Also it might take a lot of time to load and as you by now know that website visitors are an impatient lot, who are not willing to wait. Have a combination of Flash & HTML on your website.

3. Website Title
Have you noticed the title bar that each website has. If you do not make use of this than probably you are losing out on something very vital. Mention your keywords at the start of the tile, but be rational, and make sure that the title should also appeal to the website visitors. Website Title is the first that is noticed by a website visitor or a search engine. Make sure you get it right for all the pages.

4. Free Web Hosting
You are trying to build your business and credibility. Why would you want to lose it by using free web hosting services. First of all, free web hosting service providers are never reliable and you never know when they start relaying advertisements on your website. Majority of search engines do not even bother to index the pages of websites that are hosted on free web servers.

5. Keyword Tag
Do not forget to use this tag. It is very important for search engine promotion. Remember to fill it with the keywords that are relevant to the content of the page and also resist the temptation to fill in all the keywords. Only input those keywords that will be relevant to the content of that particular web page. Also note that you can mention different keywords on different web pages.

6. Not having any outgoing links
Do you know why the Internet is called the Web? Because the web sites link to each other. If you only have incoming links and no outbound links, it's not appreciated by the search engines as it violates the basic structure of the Web. Because some people try to conserve PageRank (a proprietary index used by Google to measure link popularity), they avoid having any outbound links. This is one big myth. You can get very good points if you have some outbound links with keyword-rich anchor text and preferably keyword-rich target URL also.
