Mistakes to avoid in Web Designing
It does not matter whether you are a web designer or a website
owner, if you are getting your web design done make sure that
the web design is done correctly and without any evident mistakes.
Of course, you will pay minute attention to all the aspects
of making an attractive websites, but at the same time also
devote time and see to it that you do not commit the mistakes
[mentioned below]. If you avoid these mistakes in web designing,
you will surely come up with an attractive yet functional website
design.
1. Size of the web page
Remember one thing -- On the internet, people are looking
for information -- for products, services and than your company.
No one is at first interested in when you your company was
started or who is heading your company and how many divisions
your company has. Website visitors, at first are only interested
to know whether you can provide what they want. SO, give them
what they are asking for and not what they do not want. Do
not fall prey to the temptation to mention each and everything
about your company on the first page and make it like an extract
of a book. Keep the information you are providing to the point,
simple and easily understandable. If the web visitor is wanting
to know more, they will click on more information and get
it.
This will also make sure that you have a chance to catch
the web visitors attention and also the web page will laod
faster. Keep the size of your web pages small.
2. Advertisements
If you have a business and are running a business website,
it will not be a good idea to out advertisements on your website,
as this will reflect poorly on you. Advertisements make people
think that the website owner does not have any other source
of revenue and hence the advertisements, and if you own a
business you do not want your potential customers to think
that about you.
Whle, if you own a portal or a website which earns it's revenue
through advertisement and exercise extra care and caution
while selecting on which advertisements to be published on
your website. Some advertisements are very attractive and
they are attractive to such an extent that the attention of
the website visitors is drawn from the content of your website
to the advertisement, and you certianly do not want this to
happen.
If you are planning to publish Google Adsense advertisements
on your website, than be aware that in it's pursuit to publish
the most relevant ads as per the content, Google might relay
the advertisements of your competitorswebsite on your website
and I think you certainly do not want that to happen.
3. Colors
In a bid to make the most attractive website design, do not
go over the board in the usage of colors. Use the colors that
are soft and easy on the eyes, which make your content highly
visible and readable. Remember -- Design & Colors are
not important, but Presentation is the most vital. Colors
play a very important in the web designing process. It will
be a good idea to avoid gaudy colors which strain the eyes.
4. Fonts & Font Sizes
You do not want to frustrate a customer by asking him to download
a particular font to view your website, Do you ? Use the fonts
that are standard and available generally in all machines,
like the font that I am using now. It's better to use a standard
font, as that will ensure that your content is presented in
exactly the same way you put it.
Do not put the content in too big or too small a size. Use
the average sized fonts, so that it is easily legible and
can be read without any problems.
5. Links Navigation
Prepare a blue print of all the pages that you think you wish
to be included in your website. It does not help to think
about and design a web page one at a time, that will consume
a lot of time and will take up considerable energy. Make sure
that the links navigation is the same on all the pages and
follows the same pattern of color, images & shapes on
all the pages. This will lend uniformity to your website.
