Web Content vs Web Design

Let us today make an attempt to discuss and oversee the eternal fight in between Web Content and Web Design. Let us try to perceive which of the one is most important for a Web Designer and a Website owner. Almost all the web designers have to come across this aberration in their career one time or the other and have to choose in between giving importance to design or content. Let me present you with some discussions on the matter of importance of Web Design or Web Content.

I very firmly advocate good web design as the first and foremost point which will hold the visitors attention to your website design. I am grieved to see that many web designers good web design to just the use of amazing graphics and extra ordinary multi media effects, which it is not. A good web design includes but is not limited to just amazing graphics and astounding effects, it is certainly more than that. A good web design is the culmination of all the aspects of web design and the way in which this is presented to the website visitor. It is to say that the presentation of the graphics and astounding effects, the way in which you preent it to website visitors is the important point and that's what is known as good web design.

If you have read all my previous articles, you will be pretty sure that web design and web contenare both equally very important. But if you have to make an immediate decision as to which one is on your top priority ? What would your answer be ? Web Design or Web Content ?

Let me present some comments in favour and against both of it.

Web Design
This is the first thing that attracts me to any website and I suppose this holds true for majority of us. If a website does not have good design than I will be the last person to bother to have a look at it and so it proves that Web Design is the most important part. But on the flip side, and it happens often, some websites are so very attractive that it is siccessful in holding the attention of the web visitor, but mind you, that attention is on the attractive design and not on the message that the website is sending out.

We all would have come across a fantastic web design, which makes us wonder the technological marvels and the geniusness of the designer, but at the same time, we are not able to make out what the website is all about. If this happens on your website if you pay more attention to web design than the web design is of no use.

The design should complement the message taht you wish to give out to your website visitors.

Web Content
Just imagine a website, with electrifying multimedia effects, dazzling graphics and superb images, but without any content. Would you visit such a website ? Well, you would but just for once to see the effects, but the sad part is that website is of no use to you. Website visitors are looking out for something, they are searching something, but instead of providing information to them you just dish out multimedia effects, the website visitor is going to get away fro your website. So, having appropriate and relevant content on your website is of utmost importance. Content is the only thing which will allow you to inform people about your company, products and services. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but still you will need words to support the pictures. You cannot just place pictures of your products on your website and expect the visitors to understand what you mean, you will need to mention what you do with that products, do you manufacture it, do you trade in it or do you want to buy it ? You will need to speak about yourself, your products and your industry.

But, a website with excessive content and no effective way to present the same will be boring, irrespective of the amount of relevant and useful content on it. The website visitor is not there to read a news paper. Present the relevant and useful content in an attractive web design, so that it holds the attention of the website visitor and you can convey the message of your website effectively.
