Basic Fundamentals of Web Designing

If you are new to web designing, or are redesigning your website or if are an amateur web designer than study the following basic fundamentals of web designing which will help you in creating a decent looking website. These are the basic and simple guidelines that should be kept in mind while designing a website..

1. Home Page - Index Page
This is the first page where people come to when they visit yuor website. This page is known as index.html or index.htm page. Whenever you type a website address most probably you will land up on the home page which is also known as Index page. This page should give a clear idea of what your website is about. It should also provide clear navigation links, and ofcourse it shuold contain the company name, its logo etc. But remember not to clutter your home page with too much of information. Make it look clean and polished.

If you are using FLASH on your home page, make sure that it loads fast and you provide a button to the web visitor to skip the flash and see your website.

2. Link Placement - Navigation Structure
Keep this a standard. Put the links at the place where people are used to find the links. Also do not experiment with this. Keep the navigation sturcture same throughout your website design. Use the same colors, effects and images in the navigation structure. Make it standard for all your web pages. Focus on making your link placement and navigation structure easily visible for the website visitor.

3. Font Size
Again, be consistent with this factor. People like to use a bigger font size when trying to emphasise something. Do not fall for this trap. if you want to emphasise on something really important make use of different colors. Also pay attention that your font size should not be very big, nor should they be very small making it illegible to read through a naked eye. You do not want website viistors to use magnifier to read through your website because no one will do so, and you will loose an important potential business opportunity. Do make use of CSS style sheets which will land uniformity to the font size being used.

4. FLASH Website
If you plan to design your complete website in FLASH, than be sure that your potential customers are having high speed internet. This is because generally a complete FLASH website will take longer to load than a standard HTML - CSS websites.

5. Content
How can anyone ignore this ? this is the basic and the most important fundamental of web designing. Point One --- Content is very important. Point Two --- Relevant Content is KING ! While designing a website you should put unique and fresh content on your website which is developed by you. Do not make an attempt to copy the content from some other website or from some magazine as this will reflect very badly on your website and company. If you are not comfortable with the languages and framing sentences, read a couple of write ups from your competitors website and than make your own. But under any circumstances do not simply copy & paste from other sources.

6. Length
This considers the length of sentences, paragraphs and page. Ideally a sentence should have 14 to 15 words in it. A paragraph should be no longer than 4 to 5 sentences and a page should be longer than an A4 size of the physicall paper. No one likes to read lengthy sales messages with your technical mumbo jumbo. Give the web visitors what they want ---- simple and to the point info and that too in an easy way.

7. Graphics
Make sure that you use the best graphics for your website design. Images which are pooraly shot can make serious damages to your website. Spend some money and get the relevant images and graphics from professional which will add up to the attractiveness of your website.
